(1) The purpose of this document is to act as a placeholder for the Macquarie University Act 1989 (the Act) and the Macquarie University By-law 2005 (the By-law). (2) The Act establishes the University as a corporate entity and prescribes the membership, powers and functions of its governing body, the University Council, as well as dealing with other statutory functions. (3) The By-law is made under the Act and primarily deals with processes associated with the membership of the University Council and the making of rules.
