(1) The purpose of this Policy is to state that Macquarie University will not accept funding and other forms of support from the Tobacco Industry. (2) Tobacco smoking remains one of the leading causes of preventable death in Australia. Smoking leads to a wide range of diseases including many types of cancer, heart disease and stroke. (3) Many research granting agencies, including the Cancer Council and the (4) This Policy applies to all staff, contractors, students, visiting academics, volunteers and other personnel of Macquarie University (the University). (5) The University will not seek or knowingly accept funding or other forms of support, other than via government levies, charges and taxes, from the Tobacco Industry or from any agencies or foundations primarily funded by the Tobacco Industry, or agents known to be acting on their behalf.
